Project 1: Packing our Bags

 

Prior to the first project, students review the elements and principals of art. The elements and principals of art are the building blocks of art. The metaphor of packing our bags is used because as we “travel” the elements and principals of art are the key “supplies” we need during our trip in order to create art.

 

The first project of the "around the world" tour that 7th and 8th graders take is focused on our local community here in Burlington or anywhere else in Vermont. For instance, students create art that is showcased at Hunt's annual Community Harvest Dinner in late October. In the past, students have created drawings and paintings of all different subjects related to the fall harvest. These subjects have included apples, corn,  leaves, and zinnias and many other fruits, vegetables and foilage related to fall.
